I’m excited to be offering a new modality to my clients! I wanted to expand my healing portfolio with this method, as it will benefit my clients in releasing past trauma and PTSD (diagnosed by a therapist or physician), as well as help with everyday issues relating to self-esteem, feelings of powerlessness, public speaking, sports, social anxiety, and even weight management.
This modality is hypnotic EMDR and is not the same as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) practiced by certified therapists, counselors and psychotherapists. I actually prefer to call it Eye Movement Therapy.
Eye Movement Therapy (h-EMDR) is notably different than hypnosis as it is conducted from an associative state – where hypnosis is from a state of dissociation. H-EMDR is both ego strengthening and resource-building which helps you move through the inner work more quickly.
This is a form of eye movement therapy which can be used for behavioral, cognitive, emotional and physical aspects of life experiences. This method works very well when followed up with regression hypnotherapy
What is Eye Movement Therapy?
This method consists of moving the eyes side to side while mentally focusing on an issue you wish to change. We cannot “think” our way out of distressing memories. However, with Eye Movement Therapy, we can release the emotional state of intense distress. Distressing situations often trigger us into a “freeze” response. Our brain can’t process all that we are going through. It’s like we become blocked. This block can include both emotional and physical sensations. Eye Movement Therapy helps the brain re-process distressing memories which might have blocked natural recovery – allowing healing to occur. Kind of like removing a splinter from a sore finger. The pain from the incident is reduced and healing is allowed to occur.
Explained simply, it’s like all the information from a distressing event such as smells, sounds, sights, sensations, and emotions, is stored on individual sheets of paper. However, when your mind goes to file all these sheets of information, it is unable to do so. The sheets might go into a “closely matched” file – but it isn’t the correct file or it may go into the “I have no idea where to file this” file. Now, imagine this file of mismatched information is piled at the entry to your home and each time you open your door you have walk around this mass of mismatched files. Eye Movement Therapy helps you put the sheets of mismatched information in the proper file, therefore clearing up your front door – and your brain.
How Does It Work?
Eye Movement Therapy utilizes bilateral stimulation that helps by-pass the area of the brain that has become stuck. This means moving back and forth either through eye movement or hand tapping. It is an 8-step process that is accomplished in a couple of sessions. Two to three different methods will be taught at each session so that you may continue the work on your own at home. It is non-evasive and easy. It can be done in person or over zoom. Both methods work great!
