Here we are again at that wonderful time of year when we are reminded to be in a state of happiness, joy and gratitude.
And yet, this is the time of year when we often feel more stress and anxiety than we seem able to handle. In addition, we have the constant news cycle that may be negatively affecting our general feeling of how the future is going to look.
So with all this, how can we find an attitude of gratitude?
What if I told you that you CAN, and that It’s easier than you think?!
What brings you joy?
Take a few minutes right now and think of things that bring you joy.
Having any trouble?
Here are a few of mine. You can ‘borrow’ them until you think of your own.
1) CLEAN SHEETS
I get such a feeling of ‘aweeee’ as I slide into clean, fresh sheets. There is nothing like a bed just after it’s been made! I am in gratitude!
2) RILEY
I feel gratitude every time I hold Riley in my arms, when I watch her get playful, when she runs across a field of grass, when she jumps in my lap and puts her front “arms” around my neck and nuzzles me saying ‘thank you’ for her dinner. I am so lucky to have found her and that she chose me to be her mommy in this life. I am in gratitude.
3) MY CLIENTS
I feel gratitude when a client chooses me to guide them toward the healing they desire. I am in gratitude for each of my wonderful clients and in awe at the progress they make. I am in gratitude.
4) MY FRIENDS
I am in gratitude for my friends that love me despite my inadequacies. I would love to be perfect – but I am not. I’m not even sure what “perfect” is – but every time I come to a new realization and change even a little – I am in gratitude.
5) PAYING MY BILLS
Yup, as I pay my bills, I adopt an attitude of gratitude. I am in gratitude for the roof over my head, my little apartment which is decorated just the way I like it. I feel safe. I don’t have to worry about crime as I am lucky enough to live in a safe neighborhood. Paying one’s bills can be looked at with gratitude – try it. As you pay your bills be in a state of gratitude.
6) LOOKING OUT MY WINDOW
As I look out my window and watch the leaves change color and slowly drift to the ground, or watch the rain pelt against my window while I sit warm and cozy inside, or as I watch a bird fluffing up her feathers trying to stay warm and dry – I am in gratitude.
Where can you find gratitude in your life?
I would love for you to share your ways of having gratitude. Maybe it’s hugging your loved ones, maybe it’s having a friend for tea, maybe it’s watching one of those predictable Hallmark movies. Please share your way of finding gratitude so others can say, “Me, too!”
Gratitude can be a simple part of life and no matter how many shifts and changes occur; you can approach it all with gratitude.
After all – you are alive!
